SILVER ANNIVERSARY EVENT

Rotary AIDS Project 25th Anniversary Celebration

On Dec. 4 there was an emotional gathering of leaders, creators, and supporters to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Los Altos Rotary AIDS Project.  The commemoration honored Dude Angius (seated in the center), who founded the organization that created “The Los Altos Story” in 1989.

Robin Young, now host of the daily “Here and Now” PBS radio show, left her Boston studio to celebrate the Los Altos Rotary AIDS Project anniversary and her film’s Peabody and ACE awards. Young, wearing headphones around her neck in this photo, is the writer and producer of this powerful story of the Angius family’s supportive response to their son, Steve’s, AIDS crisis.

Hollywood director Greg Hoblit, seated at far left, took leave from his current project in Canada to join the celebration.  Hoblit had been instrumental in pairing Young with Los Altos Rotary and in recruiting resources to film the interviews and scenes in the film.

TASK FORCE REUNITED

Several of the original 12 “task force” team and all of Dude’s family members came to celebrate this silver anniversary of changing attitudes about HIV/AIDS.

Said Mary Prochnow, original co-chair of the task force, shown in salmon jacket, “Every human being deserves to be well treated, not hidden in the back bedroom. This has been a magical ride for each of us in a very bittersweet way.”

The powerful 30 minute DVD of “The Los Altos Story” can be requested by emailing us at info@rotaryaidsproject.org.
